Branding and Style

In this project, I take you through the branding guidelines for Unlocking the Severn. From logos, to getting that colour palette just right, to adding a pop of personality, you can see how Unlocking the Severn stays true to its brand. I also give you an example of how I used our brand guidelines to create a logo for one of our campaigns.

Filming

We worked with a professional filmographer to produce a short film, celebrating the completion of Lincomb fish pass. Lincomb was the third fish pass to be completed, but the most northerly pass. Meaning it would be the final pass our migratory fish would travel through to get to spawning habitat beyond - a big deal!

Graphics - promotional materials

No one pays any attention to a dull poster do they? Black and white and boring? It's gotta go. Take a look at some of the posters, flyers and leaflets I have produced for Unlocking the Severn.

Photography

A picture is worth a thousand words. And photography has certainly been vital for telling the story of Unlocking the Severn. I have taken plenty of photos for Unlocking the Severn, using both a DSLR and a smartphone. View my photography project and some of my favourite snaps below.

SEO

Search Engine Optimisation. What's that, why is it important, and how have I used it to boost the profile of Unlocking the Severn? Take a look at my report below.

Social Media Strategy

Building a good social media strategy means setting achievable goals, understanding your audience, choosing the right platforms, and being true to your key messaging. Read about Unlocking the Severn's social media marketing strategy in my report below. Find out how I used our socials channels to engage our digital audiences.

Social Media Campaign

May is one of the busiest months in the Unlocking the Severn calendar. The twaite shad are migrating up the River Severn, scientific monitoring is in full flow, and there are plenty of events and activities to promote. Take a look at the Severn Shad Run campaign I designed and ran for the project.

Video Project - River Story

User generated content is a great way of showing public engagement with conservation projects. In this project, I took a poem, written and recorded by one of Unlocking the Severn's volunteers, and produced a video to share on socials and the website.

Video Project - Fish Films

Have you been to Diglis underwater viewing gallery in Worcester? The new window into the river allows visitors a glimpse into the world beneath the surface of the River Severn. During the spring migration, our scientific monitoring cameras captured lots of footage of fish swimming through Diglis fish pass. I used these to produce videos for socials and our website, showing the array of wildlife we have seen.

Website development and content

The Unlocking the Severn website is the go-to place to find out information about the project. Take a look at the reports below to see some of the work I have done on the website.

Writing for a non-linear medium

Understanding how your audience navigates your webpage is so important for producing good web content. Take a look at how I designed a new webpage for one of our key project locations: Diglis Island.

Written copy for digital - Newsletters

Email communications are a great way of reaching a large, highly engaged audience. I was editor in chief of the Unlocking the Severn newsletter, sending monthly communications to our subscribers.

Written copy for print - writing for the internal company magazine

The Source is the Canal & River Trust's internal company magazine. I produced an article to celebrate the completion of Unlocking the Severn, which was printed into the August 2022 edition.

Wider responsibilities and personal development

As well as running digital communications, I also have had a variety of other responsibilities with the project. I have also been lucky enough to shadow members of the team and within our partner organisations.
